Scutching

Scutching is a mechanical operation that separates the fibers and bark from the plant by crushing and beating. The fibers obtained are classified into two categories: long fibers (filasses) and short fibers (tow).

The word teillage comes from the word tilleul. In fact, the instrument used to break the wood to extract the fibers was made of basswood and called the teil.
