Combing

The flax from the scutching process is then prepared for spinning, and the fibers are divided to homogenize them.

The combing machines are fitted with ever finer needles, so that the flax fibers are separated ever more finely. First the feet are combed, then the heads. After differentiation, the fibers are picked up by a gripper and laid overlapping on a spreader. This is how a combed linen ribbon of infinite length is formed.
